Quick Answer
Pick by job, not by brand. Claude is strong for long documents, writing and working inside your files, with Claude Design for decks and Claude Cowork for multi-step tasks. ChatGPT is strong for images, scheduled tasks, agent mode and a wide plugin directory. Team plans cost about the same. Many teams end up using both, and the cost is keeping the same instructions in two places.

Where Claude Is Stronger
Decks and visuals that follow your brand. Claude Design creates slides, one-pagers and prototypes from a description, reads your design files to build a design system, and exports to PowerPoint, PDF or Canva (Unite.AI on Claude Design). It's included on Pro and Team plans (Claude pricing).
Work inside your folders. Claude Cowork is a desktop agent: you point it at a folder, describe the outcome and it produces the report, spreadsheet or document. Since July 2026 it can also write to Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams and SharePoint (Kevin Stratvert on Cowork and Microsoft 365).
Long documents and careful writing. Claude handles long reports, contracts and policies well, which suits teams whose work is mostly words.
Building things. Claude Code is included on Team plans, so the same subscription covers your developers.
Where ChatGPT Is Stronger
Images. ChatGPT Images 2.0 creates and edits images in the chat, and plans the layout before it draws (eesel on ChatGPT Images). Claude doesn't generate images.
Tasks that run on their own. Agent mode works through websites and multi-step jobs, and scheduled tasks send you a briefing every morning without being asked (eWeek on ChatGPT features).
The biggest add-on directory. ChatGPT's Plugin Directory holds skills, apps and templates in one place. It's also where custom GPTs are moving: OpenAI is retiring them in favour of plugins (OpenAI: custom GPT retirement FAQ).
Familiarity. Most people have already used ChatGPT, so it's often the easier one to roll out.
How We Use Both
We don't choose. This website's look was designed with ChatGPT's image generation and built with Claude. Our newsletter is designed in Claude Design. Day-to-day work runs across Claude, ChatGPT and Grok, each where it's strongest.
What makes that possible is that every AI starts from the same company context, knowledge base and skills. Without that, each one would need its own copy of our rules, and the copies would drift.
The Catch: Two AIs, Two Sets of Instructions
Using both is easy. Keeping them consistent isn't.
- A Claude Project and a ChatGPT project each hold their own instructions and files. Neither can see the other.
- A skill uploaded to Claude has to be uploaded again to ChatGPT, and updated in both when it changes.
- Platforms change. Custom GPTs stop running in December 2026, so anything built only as a GPT needs rebuilding.
The result is two versions of how your business works, slowly drifting apart.
Try It: Split One Week of Work
- List the five tasks your team gives AI most often.
- Next to each, write which AI does it best today: Claude Design for the client deck, ChatGPT for the campaign image, and so on.
- Write down what each AI needs to know to do it your way: your services, your tone, your templates.
- Notice how much of that list is the same for both. That's the part to keep in one place.
Where Contexta Fits
Contexta holds that shared part once, for every AI. A skill tells your AI what to do. Your knowledge base shows it how, in detail. Your company context tells it who it's for. The Contexta harness brings them together, in every AI.
Claude and ChatGPT both connect to Contexta, and both are tested setups. Your knowledge base stays in your own SharePoint or Google Drive, spaces keep each team's rules separate, and every skill keeps its version history. Update a skill once in Contexta, and both AIs use the new version the next time it's asked.
